"Looking Glass Pet Shop is here for you during these trying times of social isolation. As many of you may know, we had a pipe burst above our store that caused a lot of damage and pushed us out of most of our storefront. You have continued to shop with us and support our small, woman owned business! We are grateful for that, so don't worry - we know your pets need their food and supplies, and are now offering delivery and curbside pickup! We stocked your bedding, live bugs and feeders, foods and treats, and toys to keep you and your pet entertained. Check out our online store to order or give us a call during our special hours Saturday - Wednesday from 12pm - 5pm. Thursday and Friday are by appointment only and we can help you over the phone. If you'd like to come in to choose your items, or need something not listed online, we are allowing 4 people in the store at a time and will help you shop. You can also reach us via our Facebook Messenger as well as by text at 224-999-0219.
Do you need to board your small animal? We are still offering that service. (No dogs or cats at this time.)
COVID-19 Precautions: Looking Glass employees will wipe down products as they come in or may be touched by those not wearing gloves while in the store. Employees will wear gloves to protect us and others. Delivery drivers will wear gloves, and leave your packages wherever you indicate so that social isolation can be upheld. We regularly sanitize and clean the animal enclosures and surfaces in the store and have instituted a new policy to wipe surfaces with a pet safe, and highly antiviral, cleaner every hour. We will allow only 6 people in the store to shop at one time, and will be happy to help with touch-free shopping and purchasing."

We have a selection of Cats, Kittens, Dogs and Puppies from local shelters available for adoption. We also take in pets looking for a new home. Our expert staff will make sure they find the perfect forever home. Please call ahead to make sure we have room and so we can set up an area for your beloved pet.

Mom & Pop boutique pet store that promotes education, animal welfare, and personalized customer service. This builds lasting relationships with the community by investing time to teach pet owners important animal care skills, answer their questions, and assist with any animal needs. We are driven by our passion for educating families about pets and finding one that fits their home perfectly. We provide the necessary information customers need to select a pet that not only fits their lifestyle but also will become a part of their family. Our staff has the knowledge to curate a selection of animals for new and experienced pet owners, and are able to sell animals and products to meet their needs. We want to help make having a pet an experience that isn't rushed or doubtful, but one that is relaxed and meaningful.

This shop isn't something new to the area as Looking Glass Pet Shop will be a direct evolution of Not Just Thee Fish Bowl. Our environment will be the same relaxed, homey feel that customers have been comfortable visiting for the past 40 years. Our goals are to keep the homey vibe while expanding the types of animals we offer, and including education and follow up services. While we will enter online dialogue by using social media and videos, our commitment to the neighborhood will stay as strong as ever, from hiring local staff to purchasing from local animal breeders.
Education is the key to success on all fronts. We are motivated by our love for animals, and envision each home having a pet as part of the family. Education, both passive and active, will not only set Looking Glass Pet Shop apart from the competition but help us reach our goal of changing lives and communities through successful pet ownership.
Looking Glass Pet Shop is a woman-owned small business in Evanston, Illinois. The Shop was formerly Not Just Thee Fish Bowl, and changed hands after 40 years of ownership by one family.
MANAGEMENT TEAM
Kayla Strauss became the manager of Fish Bowl in 2017, and quickly determined that her passion for breeding and raising animals of all types would direct her life. The owner of Fish Bowl was nearing retirement age, and wanted to see her family’s company in good hands. Kayla has extensive experience with both domestic and exotic reptiles, amphibians, avians, small mammals, dogs, and cats. Her focus on educating everyone about animal welfare and giving the best care possible has positively impacted many customers and other breeders.
